Sensory Room

A Sensory Room is a specially designed room that combines a range of stimuli to help individuals develop and engage their senses. You may find the following in a Sensory Room:

Lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects, aromas

This safe environment allows the person using it to explore and interact without feeling stressed or anxious.

A Sensory Room can be of huge benefit to all children, not just those with disabilities.

There are so many benefits but here are a few of the main ones:

Sensory stimulation, Learning through play in a Sensory Room can engage different areas of the brain, helping children absorb and retain more information due to being more relaxed.

Sensory Rooms provide opportunities to learn fine motor skills as well as cause and effect.

They are exciting spaces for non-verbal children to begin to initiate communication within a highly motivating environment.

Tackle Problems With Behaviour, sensory environments can be highly absorbing and are wonderful spaces to provide physical input that can help inactive individuals to feel better engaged and alert as well as provide calming sensations to those who are highly active and impulsive.

Sensory Rooms are amazing for creating a safe feeling of calm helping the most reluctant of children to slow down and notice the moment.

Sensory Rooms are fantastic for providing safe spaces to learn social skills and develop creative thinking and problem solving that will have a positive impact on better school focus.

This is why it is so important that we are able to reach the funding level required so that there can be a Sensory Room here in Milton Keynes that would be an inclusive space for ALL children to feel safe and nurture a positive sense of self.
